A Beacon Hill engagement session

Beacon Hill feels like stepping into another century. Gas lamps, brick sidewalks, flower boxes and rows of brownstones make every corner look like a scene from a film, which is exactly why it’s one of my favorite places in New England for engagement photos.

We started beneath a wall of climbing roses on red brick, then wandered past ivy-covered stoops, iron balconies and the striped awning of a neighborhood flower shop. Some moments were quiet and close. Others were full of laughter as they strolled hand in hand down the brick sidewalks.

The result is exactly what I love to create: timeless, editorial images that feel like the two of you.

Planning your own Beacon Hill session

  • Go early. Beacon Hill, and Acorn Street especially, is one of the most photographed spots in Boston. A sunrise or early-morning session means fewer crowds and soft, even light between the buildings.
  • Wear shoes you can walk in. The brick sidewalks and cobblestones are beautiful but uneven. Bring heels for a few shots and switch in between.
  • Lean into the classic look. Light neutrals, a crisp white dress or a tailored jacket feel right at home against red brick and black shutters. See what to wear for more ideas.
  • Bring a detail or two. A woven clutch, a favorite watch, your ring: small details make beautiful close-ups that round out your gallery.
