A Silverman’s Farm family session

There’s nothing quite like October in Connecticut, and Silverman’s Farm in Easton is one of my favorite places to spend it. Rows of evergreens, hay bales stacked beside piles of pumpkins and trees just turning gold and red make the whole farm feel like a storybook fall.

This family of three matched the season perfectly in plaid, burgundy and warm neutrals. We wandered down the farm road, ran across the open field and stopped by the hay bales and pumpkins. Their little guy was all giggles, especially when he got to fly: lifted high into the air, swung between Mom and Dad, and carried along for the adventure.

In between all the movement came the quiet moments too: a nose-to-nose cuddle with Mom, a kiss on the head from Dad, and a minute for the two of them. That mix of play and closeness is exactly what I love about family sessions.

Planning your own fall family session

  • Dress in fun fall colors. Burgundy, rust, mustard, plaid and warm neutrals look beautiful against evergreens and changing leaves. Coordinate rather than match, and I’m always happy to look over outfit options before your session.
  • Wear shoes you don’t mind getting muddy. Farm paths and fields are often damp in the fall. Boots are perfect, and they look great in photos too.
  • Get ready to move! A lot of my prompts involve movement: walking, running, twirling, swinging your little one between you. It keeps kids laughing and having fun, and it’s where the most natural moments happen.
